This version of the Tacho Pulse Limiter is specifically designed for carbureted outboard engines. These engines often produce ignition signals with high voltage peaks and excessive amplitude, which can lead to unstable RPM readings on your display.

WARNING: Connecting a carbureted engine directly to the display unit without this limiter may permanently damage the device due to excessive voltage spikes.

The limiter filters and stabilizes these pulses, ensuring a clean signal for accurate engine speed calculation. It is an essential protective component for older carbureted outboards.

For EFI/DFI engines, a pulse limiter is not needed when the RPM signal comes from a suitable electronic tachometer output rather than directly from the ignition coil. Select the connection according to the signal source; a direct coil signal may require a limiter to protect the instrument.
